A DECKBUILDING GAME FROM WISE WIZARD GAMES - HERO REALMS
Hero Realms the Base Deckbuilding Game
Hero Realms is a fantasy-themed expandable deckbuilding game from the creators of Star Realms (winner of multiple game-of-the-year awards).
HERO REALMS CORE GAME
Now is a time for heroes!
Become a hero. Perform mighty actions and recruit powerful champions to your cause.
From the makers of the award-winning Star Realms Deckbuilding Game, Hero Realms combines the fun of deckbuilding games with the interactivity of trading card game-style combat. As you play, use gold to add new actions and champions to your deck. When played, those actions and champions generate powerful effects, give you additional gold, and damage your opponent and their champions. If you reduce your opponent’s health to zero, you win!
This deck is a complete game for 2-4 players, and contains rules and 144 cards. To expand the game for more players, use an additional deck or add Hero Realms Character Packs.

If you have played a deck builder then this will be easy to pick up.
The combat is manageable and can get a bit swingy if certain cards come into the lineup without any healing available.
A bunch of expansions including boss battle which turn the game into a one vs all thing. A few campaign expansions that make the game a co-op experience and finally classes, the add some player powers and asymmetrical starter decks.
Dislikes:
One of the 'colors' has all the healing and is the only one so actually getting healing cards isn't that common so if your opponent gets lucky with the lineup and money in hand they can do a ton of damage in a single turn.
The game does get samey with about 20ish plays. The expansions help with this and make the game way better.
The expansions are basically the same price as the base game. Shouldn't really be a point here but I figured I should mention it.
Sleeving the cards makes it not fit the box it came in.
Final Thoughts:
Overall a fun, easy, and quick game. The game does feel fresh if you play it for a while and then wait some time and come back to it. Or if you add the expansions.
8.5/10 (Will always play it, base game or expansions)
The print quality is excellent and I love the art of the game. 100% recommend.
This game is fast paced and can dramatically shift, which is fun. I think there are more cards than in basic Star Realms and Cthulhu realms (which I have only played through their mobile apps) which is great. When we get bored with the deck, which will take a while, maybe we will get the character decks or whatever.
As for multiplayer, I have only played that once, four people playing damage effects everyone and just the row in the middle. I was trying to get my gaming group to try out a handbuilder, and it didn't go so great. Over too quick, no chance to have strategy or whatever. I am sure we were doing a few things wrong and I need to play more. Two player has been awesome, need experiment more with the multiplayer.
I ultimately chose this card game for the following reasons:
1. While it has character cards that you can buy separately, even if you never buy them the game is already ready to play 2-4 players with no more purchasing needs.
2. It plays like Star Realms, another popular game but this fantasy/heroes theme is more appealing to my son.
3. It plays fast once you learn the rules 30 minutes or so.
4. The skills to win have a Luck of the draw component but also relies on good decision making. At eight my son prefers luck based games to even out the likelihood he can beat dad at games.
5. At $20 or so the cost is excellent for gambling on a purchase your kid might not like.
Overall, the game is a lot of fun for both my son and I. We bought the five character card packs (about $5 each) to add to the fun and change up the 10 card starting decks. I am not sure who likes the game more between us and that is a good thing! Buy this game with confidence!
Muy recomendado si complementas con las campañas!
Also before playing this I was considering getting into magic the gathering again, this scratches that same itch. I fully recommend this to anyone who plays magic the gathering or a gift for someone like that.

Plus, fairly easy to understand:
- everyone starts with the same deck, i.e. some gold and a little damage, as well as 50 hit points.
- you set up 5 cards, face up from the main deck (that's the market), each card having a cost in gold.
- first player draws their first hand from their starting deck and set it on the table; they see what they can or wants to buy from the marketwith thifirst hand, and set their purchase(s) in their discard pile. They also deal any damage they may deal to another player and resolve any other action.
- any card deplected from the market is replenished, so the next player also has 5 choices.
- second players draws a hand from their deck, buys, deals damage, and resolves all actions.
- once a player's deck has been all drawn, shuffle the discard pile (with your purchases in) and make it your new deck.
- keep going till only one player is left standing.
What are those other actions I mention? just read the card you drew and played!
They are a couple more subtelties, but that's the main game. No two games are the same, you'll never have the same deck twice, and the deck even evolves as you play
The art is great, the box is perfectly sized to fit the cards and accommodates any additional characters pack you may want to purchase. We have since bought the wizard and ranger characters packs and they were a great addition. Star realms are made by the same publisher and depending on your interest in fantasy or space will decide which way you go. I have found this to be better balanced even though my wife seems to always win. I would recommend this for anyone new to board games.
